PROTOCOL TO LEAVE EARTH 3047
is a virtual reality artwork
of a dream in space and beyond

The user will be projected into a fiction of anticipation, revelling possible futures.

A first extract has been show in Oaxaca Contemporary Art Museum.

Protocolo para dejar la Tierra.JPG

The full project, led since 2016, invits the user to ride an Xray shark trough a submerged citiy, witnessing traces of a past civilisation.

S/He can lead its shark towards a journey  into a fictional cosmos passing by all sorts of different space ships, interactive asteroids fields, planets, dreamed environments and evolved livings mixing futuristic and historical dimensions.

S/He will be free to evolve where ever s/he wants in Ann Grim's 3D animated dream and beyond...

Where no bounderies stands, allowing humans to take some distance from their position on Earth, contemplate and possibly redefine their role and future in Space.

The inside of the sphere

The inside of the sphere

Preparatory study In a monumental sphere, on the platform, at the viewer’s reach are three large rocks covered in lichens and other livings.

Interactive rocks

Interactive rocks

Preparatory study. If/when the viewer places his/her hands on a rock, s/he will/would shrink to a minuscule size, surrounded by what will/would feel like a jungle. The viewer will be able to explore his/her new environment for a few seconds and will be restored to normal size. Each rock will transport the viewer in a different world: #1: a rising water #2: burnt wood and words #3: sharks and underwater

Interaction into the cosmos

Interaction into the cosmos

Preparatory study After x minutes, the visual is literally sucked up, replicating a black hole. The background becomes a reproduction of the existing «real» environement where the vr booth is.

Preparatory study The sphere breaking in two. Everything around him/her seems to split, in an almighty crash sound, electric spikes travel on the surface of the sphere around the viewer.

Wormhole spatiotemporal door

Wormhole spatiotemporal door

Preparatory study A wormhole hole appears to the viewer, allowing him/her to be beamed out of the sphere and into the cosmos. He/she can use that “door” to go back in and out again as he/she pleases.

Ann Grim bespoke Leaving Gaia brush

Preparatory study I am in the process of developing a customised brush, “the bespoke Leaving Gaia brush” allowing the viewer to use unconventional accessories to draw or write in 3D and where the user gives a direction to the tool and the brush continues the movement. The viewer can activate a “drawing mode” or a “writing mode” through the joystick at any time during the VR experience.

appendix 2 _ the sphere

The sphere breaking in two. Everything around him/her seems to split, in an almighty crash sound, electric spikes travel on the surface of the sphere around the viewer.

Magnetic and electric fields

For the first two seconds, the viewer is in total darkness. Everything around him/her seems to split, in an almighty crash sound, electric spikes travel on the surface of the sphere around the viewer. The sphere slowly splits into two semi-spheres perfectly symmetrical. A halo of light also perfectly circular lets some light in slowly.

A wormhole hole appears to the viewer, allowing him/her to be beamed out of the sphere and into the cosmos. He/she can use that “door” to go back in and out again as he/she pleases.

Asteroïd field

On the outside the viewer discovers the cosmos. He/she can move the sphere wherever he/she wants. He/she can also interact with asteroids or stars he/she may come across by breaking them.
